Improving Concavity Performance of Snake Algorithms

چکیده
Poor convergence to concave boundaries is a limitation in the use of snakes as a contour approximation technique. The external force for active contours, called gradient vector flow (GVF), has provided a remarkable improvement to this problem. However, the technique requires high computation time for reliable concavity performance. In this paper, we propose an efficient solution to overcome these drawbacks. We develop a method that directs the snake further into the concavities and saves iterations, adding new snake points further inside concavities. Our approach can be applied to other snake models based on external vector fields that provide worse concavity performance than GVF.

متن کاملAn Improved Algorithm Based on the GVF-Snake for Effective Concavity Edge Detection
Image segmentation is an important research area in Computer Vision and the GVF-snake is an effective segmentation algorithm presented in recent years. Traditional GVF-snake algorithm has a large capture range and can deal with boundary concavities. However, when interesting object has deep concavities, traditional GVF-snake algorithm can’t converge to true boundaries exactly. In this paper, a ...
متن کاملVertex Equitable Labeling of Double Alternate Snake Graphs
Let G be a graph with p vertices and q edges and A = {0, 1, 2, . . . , [q/2]}. A vertex labeling f : V (G) → A induces an edge labeling f∗ defined by f∗(uv) = f(u) + f(v) for all edges uv. For a ∈ A, let vf (a) be the number of vertices v with f(v) = a. A graph G is said to be vertex equitable if there exists a vertex labeling f such that for all a and b in A, |vf (a) − vf (b)| ≤ 1 and the indu...
متن کاملMETHODS FOR REDUCING SEARCH AND EVALUATING FITNESS FUNCTIONS IN GENETIC ALGORITHMS FOR THE SNAKE-IN-THE-BOX PROBLEM by JOSHUA
This thesis explores the use of Genetic Algorithms in approaching the Snake-In-The-Box problem in dimension 8. It discusses methods for improving the solutions found by reducing the representation space for the problem. It presents a representation scheme called FrequencyBased Transition Reassignment (FBTR), which creates a unified interpretation of individuals to prune the search space. FBTR i...
